After the system breakdowns of the recent past, many cities in Europe are suffering from similar problems—and are also facing similar opportunities.
Actopolis | die Kunst zu handeln, a joint project of Urbane Künste Ruhr and Goethe-Institut, brought 2015 artists, activists and curators from Southeast Europe to Oberhausen. These resulted in joint project ideas that were implemented over the course of the year in participating cities (Athens, Belgrade, Bucharest, Ankara/Mardin, Oberhausen, Sarajevo, and Zagreb).
Under the title Wir bauen eine neue Stadt (We Are Building a New City), artists and artist groups captured the fascination of the entire city of Oberhausen with their interventions. The ten-day festival was curated by die geheimagentur. In 2017, the documented projects will be presented in the cities of the participants as a travelling exhibition, not least to set a cornerstone for a sustainable, interdisciplinary network.
